Switzerland, officially known as the Swiss Confederation is located in Western Europe. It is a landlocked country that is bordered by Italy, France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Switzerland has four official languages; French, Italian, German and Romansh. Switzerland is a small country with a population of around 7.5 million. Switzerland History
During World War I the Switzerland's neutrality was respected. The Germans did draw up plans to invade the country during World War II but the attacks on Switzerland were never carried out. Switzerland took in around 300,000 refugees during the war; the majority of these were foreign troops. Switzerland joined the European Council in 1963 and women were given voting rights in 1971. Switzerland became a member of the UN in 2002.
