Car Hire Europe
European Geography
Europe is one of the world's seven continents. It is bounded by four different bodies of water; the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the West and the Black Sea to the east. Europe is divided from its neighbouring continent of Asia by the Caspian Sea and the Ural Mountains. In terms of area Europe is the second smallest of the world's continents covering 3,930,000 square miles, which makes up just 2% of the Earth's surface. However, in contrast to this Europe is the third largest continent in terms of population (behind only Asia and Africa). It has a population of just over 700,000,000 people; this makes up around 11% of the population of the world. With Europe being on of the smaller continents it is easy to travel from country to country by car, therefore Car Hire in Europe is a great option and at Auto Reservation Plus we can cater for all your car hire needs. In terms of size Russia is Europe's largest country, with the smallest country being the Vatican.
History of Europe
Following the downfall of the Roman Empire, Europe entered a period known as the Age of Migrations; this period has also been referred to as the Dark Ages by some. There was a rebirth in the western part of the Roman Empire during this time and it became known as the Holy Roman Empire. The new monarchs during The Renaissance started a time of exploration and discovery, this brought about an increase in knowledge in the field of science. Following this Europe went into a period were democracy took over. There were numerous fights for independence; the most famous of these was in France (The French Revolution). Democracy caused a great increase in tension throughout Europe mainly due to competition in the New World. In the aftermath of World War I most European countries took on their current form. Following World War II Europe became divided into 2 main areas, in Eastern Europe there were the Communist nations and in southern, western and northern Europe were the Capitalist countries. This divide weakened with the collapse of the Iron Curtain and was furthered in 1989 when Germany brought down the Berlin Wall. The final act was in 1991 when the Soviet Union broke up.
